Dog sledding is an Alaskan tradition and a state obsession. One that’s celebrated every March with the running of the 1,150-mile Iditarod Sled Dog Race from Anchorage to Nome. The original sled dogs were chosen for strength and stamina, but modern dogs are bred for speed and endurance. Well balanced dog team matches all dogs for both size and gait – so that the entire dog team moves in a similar fashion. Sled dogs have closely spaced toes and their webbed feet act as snow shoes. #funfact
