Common sunflower, is a large annual forb of the genus Helianthus grown as a crop for its edible oil and edible fruits. Immature flower buds of the sunflower exhibit heliotropism, on sunny days the buds will track the sun across the sky from east to west and by dawn the buds return to face eastward.
